My students need ink to continue using learning how to use and utilize our photo printer. We need a dust cover to protect the printer and roll attachment for experimental printing on different materials.
As a teacher of approximately 525 students yearly, I have the opportunity to come in to contact with a collection of amazing students from varying backgrounds. I am the part of their day where self expression is encouraged and creativity is expected. In photography, students have the opportunity to share their point of view; the way they see the world.
Photography immortalizes moments and captures emotions like no other medium.
Photography gives students the opportunity to learn about themselves and where they stand in this world. In the classroom, students also have the opportunity to learn about each other in an open, exploratory way as well as critically think and analyze well-known images.
My Project
At my middle school, photography is a very valued subject! With the help of great community members, friends, and family we were gifted with a beautiful Epson P800 Sure Color photo printer. Our first year of use resulted in printed student photographic works. In addition, 53 of the printed pieces were awarded in this years California State Fair.
In a world of digital cameras and cell phone photography, most of my students rarely convert digital images to something tangible.
Without ink, we are forced to send our images out to print and this is a costly endeavor that limits the amount of what we can print. When we do display actual images, students are excited to both look at and finally keep their images.
Giving my students access to a photo printer with ink and access to a multitude of printer mediums would mean the difference between making a photograph as opposed to simply taking it. Having a dust cover would protect and extend the life of our printer.
With ink and additional supply for our class photo printer students would have the opportunity to learn how to print their digital images and create a physical body of work for their personal portfolios.
