Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our school and in my classroom are highly motivated to learn. They always appreciate a new way to master subject areas, especially if it incorporates technology. My students are at all levels of academic skills, from Special Ed to Gifted. Our school has a diverse demographic population with over 50% receiving free or reduced-price lunches. We also have many ESOL students who have just arrived in the US.
Creating a 360-degree virtual field trip will be an exciting, fun way for my students to demonstrate their knowledge to their fellow classmates.
The students love to integrate the latest cutting-edge technology into everything they do. We've seen virtual field trips, but now they will be able to create their own.
My Project
My students need and want new ways to demonstrate their learning in all subject areas. Our school is a magnet school for the arts, and the students can be very creative in how they show what they have learned. We are always looking for new ways to do this.
Using the Vivitar 360 Action Camera, the students can plan and then film field trips to show their fellow classmates about what they are learning.
One introductory use would be to create a 3D tour of our school to show incoming students new to our campus. The students would go through a whole production scenario. They would work in cooperative groups to decide on a topic to film related to the subject area of their choice, whether it be math, science, social studies, language arts, or any other topic they are learning about. They would then do research to be sure to have all the needed information. After that, they would create a storyboard of the scenes they plan on shooting. Once they are ready, they would use the camera to create their field trip in 360 degrees. After they are done filming, they will edit their field trip to get it ready for viewing and share with classmates in class and around the school.
Being able to use the Vivitar 360 Action Camera will give students a new 21st Century skill that will come in handy for their future schooling and occupations.
