Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am lucky to work with hard-working bilingual fifth graders. They are dedicated to their learning and advocate for themselves. They care about the world and value learning about what is happening in the world.

By connecting my students to current events, we can have relevant conversations and discuss what our role is in what is happening.

We speak and learn in both English and Spanish and need opportunities to practice both languages. Our discussions are most engaging when we have relevant topics to what is happening in the world.

My Project

My fifth graders are ambitious and motivated to care for the world. We discuss current events every week and our role in our society. It is important for them to have access to current events and relevant topics.

With a TIME for Kids subscription, I want to promote civic engagement and discussion around the themes and topics we read about together.

I also want to use these relevant topics to enhance our literacy skills and share our learning with writing projects around thematic units from the TFK issues. Furthermore, students can be inspired by the adults and kids they read about who are doing something to make the world better.
