Mr. Cella from Chicago IL is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need building materials such as blocks, clay, glue, and pipe cleaners in order to make their thoughts and ideas come to life.

"The World will hear my Voice." Often, my preschool students express their "voice" through the inventions and structures they create in the room. With budgets in our district tightening, though, it's clear that our class will be in short supply of materials.
I teach in an amazing community with a wonderful group of families and children.
Going into my fourth year of teaching, I'm so excited to learn more about how my students explore, observe, and interpret the world around them. As a teacher in a school with over 95% low income students, I become frustrated with the negative connotations associated with my community. I want my students, families, classroom, and entire school to be recognized for passion, thoughtfulness, creativity, and genius. As an International baccalaureate school, we look at students as well rounded, productive members of society. Besides a strong focus on the "core" subjects, we help develop inquisitiveness, open-mindedness, care, reflectiveness, and other critical life traits in our students.
The resources I'm requesting will aid my students to explore the central idea of our first unit "The world will hear my voice: Our thoughts and ideas are important." One resource I'm requesting is a set of foam blocks. Blocks are an absolutely essential part of early childhood education. Students are able to use blocks to explore and build mathematical and critical thinking skills. I hope to encourage my students to think about their thoughts and ideas. I will help them make their ideas a reality as they use their blocks to create a structure, building, monument, etc. Each student will be able to make a booklet that will document their creative process. Their booklet will serve as an invention publication that they can share with pride. I've requested additional craft resources such as clay, glue, Lego's, and pipe cleaners. I understand that some students will prefer materials other than blocks. I want to ensure that each child is able to express themselves in a way that they see fit.
If my classroom were to receive these materials, my students would be benefited immediately.
Too often, when my class has been in short supply of materials, my students have found difficulty expressing themselves in a way that makes most sense to them. These materials will give my students an opportunity to express their genius beyond verbal and written communication. Their mathematical and critical thinking development will be tremendously supported
