Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My campus is a Title I school with a large population of low-income students. The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides free breakfast and lunches for 100% of our students. During our distance-learning situation, the school provided our kiddos with breakfast and lunches five days a week through our drive-through curb service.
Our students left for Spring Break on March 13th and then had an additional week off while the state was evaluating our return.
We never imagined we would never return to our classroom to finish what we started in August!! I know the children are ready to return to class to see their school family and classmates.
The students I will have this upcoming school year will be new to our campus. They are creative and ready to soak up all of the new things they will learn and to thrive in the classroom setting again.
My Project
This will be my first year as a classroom teacher! I will be teaching third grade ELAR and I am so excited! I worked as a SPED TA and in the Character Lab/Art classroom this past year.
I want to help provide basic school supplies for my students.
I am hoping to provide my classroom with items to help us be organized in our learning. The classroom mailbox will help my students to keep their assignments together and easy to access. The dry-erase pockets will help the students work together in small group stations. The partitions will help provide the students a quiet place to work inside during independent work. Students will have individual folders to place work in progress and to store study guides.
The closing of our school campuses in our community, have really affected not just our normal daily routine. Families have been struggling with their jobs and/or loss of jobs; finances and working with their children during the pandemic.
Many families will be unable to send their child to school with the supplies listed on the district's school supply list. I know the kiddos are so excited to return to the classroom and I would love to help take away any financial burden from my new families.
