Mrs. Lewis from Baltimore MD is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need access to tablets for testing and small groups.

I teach in a Farm school with low income students many who are refugees from other countries and speak very little English if any. I have 5 ESOL students, one which speaks a dialect called Fur which we have no translators for. The other ESOL students speak very little English and have been in our country for less than 2 years. It is such a rewarding experience to see each student make some progress, and the excitement that they feel when they have that Aha moment.
I have ten students that are reading above grade level by at least a year or more.
These students need to be challenged to keep them engaged and on track. They get board so easily and need extra stimulation to excite and keep them motivated. Six of them have been identified as gifted and talented and are pulled for special classes weekly.
Then I have the rest of my students that are learning at their own pace at various levels, which I pull in small groups daily to try to improve their fluency and comprehension in Reading and Math.
Trying to use technology in our classroom is both frustrating and time consuming. Attempting to log on and use our antiquated computers for small group intervention, or testing makes my students unenthusiastic about using technology on a daily basis in our classroom. Students are usually excited to be given computer time but not in our class and I would desperately love to change that.
I have a large refugee population at my school and most of these students struggle with the English language.
For these students and my other low income students, School based computers are their only opportunity to use a computer, and in a technological world like ours, computer skills are of the utmost importance. I have to administer periodic tests on the computer, and having working tablets available to my students would make testing less stressful which would increase test scores.
