Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Middle Schools are often the first place where kids learn to play tennis. Our school offers a chance for students to learn to play tennis, but because we only have two courts, students don't get a lot of time hitting balls. We need a tennis ball machine that can maximize court time!
Our school is in a fast-growing district, in a suburb of Austin, Texas.
Most of our students are bused in from several neighborhoods, which makes being part of our school sports teams very important, as these students need every opportunity to become part of the school community. Our tennis coaches have grown the tennis program significantly over the years, and every year we have more and more students trying out for the team. Our coaches have always had to manually feed balls to the students for practice, which creates inconsistency in their ability to provide all the students with skills practice.
My Project
A tennis ball machine would significantly increase the ability of our coaches to differentiate their practice instruction, and provide consistently-fed balls for skill development. Most of the students coming onto the tennis team have never played before, and getting those basic forehands and backhands set is key to their continued development. Allowing one of the two courts to be set up with a tennis ball machine would help the coaches work with smaller groups on footwork, serving, and strategy, while continuing to keep all students focused and improving for the whole practice.
Your donation will help our students by allowing them to spend more time during tennis practice receiving consistently-fed balls to improve their basic swings.
This will allow them to move on to other, more complicated tennis skills more quickly, and become more confident and better prepared on the court during tennis matches. Our tennis coaches are dedicated to the students and the sport, and have managed for long enough without a tennis ball machine. Please help us raise these funds!
