Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I work with are in a low income area, with not many resources readily provided for them. They want to learn and do well, but unfortunately, sometimes their circumstances do not allow for it. Many of my students are new to the country and are ELL students. They come from families where English is not often spoken. For many of my students, their first experience in America is in my class.
My students are very special and unique because they not only have to learn to adapt to living in a new country, but they also need to figure out how to be educated in an American school.
My Project
My students are in desperate need of basic everyday school supplies. All of my students come from a low income neighborhood and many of the families are struggling to make end's meat.
Their families are unable to buy basic supplies like glue and paper.
We have gone through so many supplies already and the year is only half over. My students often take home the pencils and glue so that they can do their homework because they don't have these basic supplies at home.
We will be using the glue, tape and paper to make "All About Me" books. These books will showcase all of the great things about my students and help them to build greater self esteem. We will be able to laminate them when the books are complete so that the students can take them home to share with their families and keep them as a memory.
