My school is a Title I school in North Charleston, SC. Many students in our school come from families that are experiencing poverty, and homes where English is not spoken as the primary language. Despite the many hardships they may face when they are not with us, our students want to come to school. They enter the building each day with a smile on their face ready to learn. These students want to be at school, and they want to learn!
My Project
As an adult it can be difficult for me to concentrate on and complete tasks each day on an empty stomach. But, that is the reality many of my students face on a daily basis. I have witnessed several students walking in to start their in a "hangry" mood--being in a angry state of mind because of a lack of food in the home. This causes the students to not only start their day in a bad mood, but causes a lack of concentration that they can't overcome on their own. As their teacher, it is my job to make sure my students have enough nutrients to maintain focus, curb their hunger throughout the school day, and not walk around "hangry." Thank you in advance for providing my students with a supply of breakfast foods so that they can start each day with a full tummy, a focused mind, and a positive attitude.
