My Students
I am the Librarian at a Title I school serving PreK-6th-grade students, all of whom receive 100% free school lunch. Many of our students have limited English, low language skills, and very little parent involvement. We have approximately 400 students. We have 19 languages represented. Approximately 29% are Pacific Islander, 20% African American, 12% Hispanic, 12% Native American, 10% Multiracial, 10% White, and 6% Asian.
Our students deserve to have the newest, best books available to them!
We have students with rough lives. Students who don't speak English. They see themselves in books, no matter what their circumstances. Please help provide good, quality books our students will want to curl up with.
My Project
There are some really great new books out there. I would like my students to have the latest and greatest books available to them.
When students read these books, they’ll benefit in ways you might not think of right away:
**reading activates their mind and imagination
**they’re reading and not staring at screens
**they’re learning! Whether it’s new vocabulary or new ideas, it’s stretching their brains in new ways!
**for some students with rough home lives, it can be an escape for them.
**the students’ reading fluency improves the more they read; their comprehension improves.
**they develop a love of reading that can last their entire lives.
