I teach Media Center (library and computer science) at a Title I school, meaning the majority of my students are considered "at-risk." Our students almost all qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Many come from one-parent families or are not even being raised by their parents. Needless to say, my students are not given the same opportunities as many kids their age.
They are amazing kids with drive and talent.
As a teacher, it is very difficult to see them miss out on the learning opportunities that so many kids their age have. I will do anything I can to give them what many kids their age already get.
My Project
Makey Makey is an exploratory STEM kit that teaches students about coding and electrical engineering but creating and test different circuits and conductive materials in order to code different aspects of a computer.
These kits allow students to explore different ways to code and control programs.
Students will also be able to create their own programs and use the Makey Makey to create controllers out of everyday objects. They can create a piano that is controlled by any open that can conduct electricity. These kids allow students to be fully immersed and hands on with electrical circuits, engineering and computer coding.
