Our STEAMers are Anything But Stationary!

Help me give my students two stationary exercise bicycles to be utilized in the library while they are reading or working on classwork. These bikes have a desktop where the student can rest their iPad, book, or classwork.

My Project

Research shows that the surge of endorphins experienced during aerobic exercise can boost brain power by enhancing memory, processing speed, and absorption of information. If our students are able to exercise while reading or working on assignments, they are able to expend excess energy, have better moods, lower their stress levels, improve their reading skills all while stimulating the brain and improving brain functioning.

We are implementing a school-wide initiative to motivate our learners to develop a love of reading and to improve reading skills.

We want to meet the students where they are in order to build lifelong lovers of reading. Our students are active middle schoolers who think and process academic skills better when they are moving, have hands-on experiences, and when they are "doing." Students would be able to utilize these exercise bikes during the day in our library. Merging the action of exercising with reading would be a win-win situation for our learners.
