My Students

Image 21st century kids learning in an environment that is not even 20th century. This is what my students face everyday at Hawthorne Brook Middle School.

The students in the towns that make up our middle school come from middle class, blue collared families.

Yet they want to learn, especially with technology. Students love using technology in our school but there is never enough or it's not sufficient to do what the students want it to do.

My Project

A 3-D printer opens the door for these students to use 21st century materials. With the printer we can begin to bring create models, problem solve and build pride in our school. When children use 3D printers, they have a mindset for better learning, one where it was okay to make mistakes. Our world changes at such a rapid pace, more than it has in the past. Being able to learn from their mistakes will be invaluable going into their future, where the jobs that they will do, don’t even exist today.

Having a 3-D printer will bring some modern technology into our school.

A 3-D printer will bring excitement and with it a modern curriculum of design and problem solving. Our students are more advanced then our current technology and this will help bridge the gap.
