This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Passion is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of my students. Not just because of their passion, but because of my passion for teaching them! My class is made up of students in grades 6-8 that are autistic.
Their enthusiasm to learn shows the second they get to school and in so many different ways throughout the day.
Whether they are saying "Good Morning" to the teachers when they walk into school, or delivering a message to the office, they never cease to amaze me!
My Project
Our students are moving to the Upper School! I have the pleasure of opening up the Autistic Support Classroom in our middle school! This means creating an environment that is safe and calm so that learning can take place.
Most of my students have attended our school since kindergarten and as they move into middle school, I am tasked with choosing what our classroom needs in order to help them be successful.
I plan on using the solid blue rug to facilitate group play, as well as using it to help establish routines. The majority of the sensory items are going to be used to help reduce anxiety and aid in learning. Most importantly, it will help create an environment where my students can feel comfortable and ready to learn.
