Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Whether I am firing up a leaf blower to demonstrate Bernoulli's equation or presenting a Disney-style music laser light show to illustrate sound waves, I know I am inspiring America's future scientists and engineers to embrace the world around them...Even if I do speak with an English accent. Although, I am now a citizen!
Many have been brought to the USA by dedicated parents willing to sacrifice their homeland for a better life for their children in the United States of America.
Subsequently, no matter how hard these students may struggle with a new language and culture, they still wholeheartedly embrace the educational opportunities provided. Some of my past students have performed so well on their AP and SAT exams, they've been accepted to the most prestigious colleges in the country. I am determined to maintain this tradition of excellence.
My Project
Two years ago our parents generously funded a project that introduced eight Vernier Labquest handheld devices into our Physics classroom. With these computers our students were able to conduct precise experiments using Vernier probes, such as photogates and force sensors. With quality data in experiments students are able to quickly comprehend ideas that we have spoken about in theory during lectures. With class sizes of over 30 I feel that it is important that I reduce the lab group size to 3 students per group. This should ensure that everyone gets to have a hands on experience in a Physics. To make this happen we need four more Labquests.
