This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The amazingly eager group of fifth graders in my care this year are having trouble connecting to the subject matter. My school services the largest housing projects in Selma, Alabama. Most of our students walk to and from there daily. For some of them, their view of the world outside of their neighborhood is very limited. I struggle to get them to relate and share background experiences because few of them have real ones. Hands on and virtual learning experiences are essential to their learning and development.
My Project
My school is emphasizing an increase in the learning of all subjects by all students, but particularly for our male population.
The items in my cart will provide them with the engaging materials needed to capture the attention of all students-but especially the boys-our target population!
Even the books included in this project are attention grabbers! Having them read and participate with the hands-on manipulatives will definitely be a win-win!
All of the items in my cart are also reusable! That means that my students will be able to use these resources for years to come! That's my favorite part!
