My students need headphones to use in the school library because they cannot afford their own. They use headphones for read-aloud and online learning for classes.
My students are passionate about learning. Even though they come from a variety of backgrounds and living situations, when they come through the doors of our school, they are equal and all want to learn in the same way. All students deserve the same access to technology.
My students are wonderful people who come all over our city, from comfortable suburbs to the inner city government housing.
They are all generally happy to come to school and are passionate about the environmental message of our school. Our school is a very unique place. We combine cutting edge educational theories and techniques with an environmental message and curriculum backed up by a wilderness setting. All of the staff are passionate about the environment and strive to make the world a greener place, both at work and in their own homes. Teachers are enthusiastic about coming to work and so are the students.
My Project
My students will be able to use these headphones to help them learn better and overcome reading problems that they could have. Some of our students are behind level in reading, and we have computers that will read aloud for them, but this can make the library very loud. Having working headphones would allow students to have work read aloud to them without disturbing other students.
Also, some of our students come from educational backgrounds where they have not been encouraged to succeed, and at our school, we allow them to do online credit recovery to graduate on time and with a higher GPA. These classes are interactive and have someone teaching them at times, which requires headphones for privacy and not to disturb other students.
This project will allow students to productively succeed in learning in the library at our school.
It will provide a quiet learning environment to all students while allowing students to hear read aloud and their online learning lessons. It will help them to gain ground in academics and will provide all students with access to technology, despite their socio-economic background.
