Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a part of the very first band our school has had in its history. Through generous donations, we have been able to get started, but still need equipment to realize the full potential of our band.
We are located in Chicago, and are a Chicago public school, grades kindergarten through 8th.
My students are very dedicated to their instruments, music, and work hard to perform well in school. The students come in to school early, just for the chance to be in band.
My Project
As of now, we have a snare drum, bass drum, and bell kit. To perform even the earliest levels of pieces, we need more equipment. If you have ever seen a band, you can probably vividly remember the cymbals crashing, adding excitement to the music. The new cymbal and stand will add a prominent component to the music my students are able to perform and enjoy. Also, hearing yourself perform is not only a joy, but a necessary tool in improving. With this recording equipment, we will be able to have the students hear exactly how they played, and will know how they can do better with each performance.
My students love band.
They come every day an hour before classes, just to play their instruments. They get no class credit, only the enrichment that performing music can bring to a student's life.
