This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach middle and high school band in a high-needs community. The school district is very small and in an urban setting. Our students all receive free lunch and breakfast. Even though the school and community have financial difficulties, my students come to school eager and ready to learn. The financial hardships do not interfere with their desire to learn and be the best they can be.
I am very fortunate to teach in a district where the students want to excel and work very hard.
My Project
I am requesting several boxes of tenor, alto, and baritone saxophone reeds. I have quite a few students that play the alto, tenor and baritone saxophone. Most of my students cannot afford to purchase their own reeds for their instrument. It is also very difficult for my students to get to a music store because many of my students do not have transportation to get there. Reeds don't last forever and my students play their saxophones every day.
I am requesting these reeds to help my students play their instruments to the best of their ability.
We are in final preparation for our holiday concert and I want to make sure my saxophone students all have a working reed. These reeds will give my students the proper pieces needed to make great music together.
