My class is a mixture of grades from 6th through 12th. I am the special education teacher at our school.
Not only are the students a mixture of grades, they are quite a mixture of personalities and each are amazing in their own way.
They make my day frustrating, long, happy, exciting, and we are a close knit bunch. There has not been a day that I do not want to go to work and this is because of the students that I work with. They will be with me through out their middle school and high school days.
My Project
My classroom is an area where students come not only to work, but sometimes come to talk, calm themselves, and to feel safe. These items would help them to gather together during talks, or to be silent together during reading initiative, and to be able to comfortably work together during lessons and assignments in life skills, communications, and other lessons.
My students deserve a place to regain control, study, and to feel safe.
Right now, there is no place in the classroom to do this in a comfortable setting. We gather at tables, but many times the students like to sit on the floor as we gather together. This would make their own safe place to gather with others or to be alone when needed.
These items of a rug, and bean bag chairs would be a wonderful start to an area that can help a troubled student unwind and to regroup.
They deserve a place to regain control, or just to relax when it is needed. It can be somewhere they look forward to coming and a place they will know they will be welcomed.
