Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have an energetic and motivated class of 2nd and 3rd graders! They represent a spectrum of learners--some still learning the basics of reading and math--some working above grade level, but they all work very hard. We also have Flex Time at my school, where students switch classes for 50 minutes each day to work at their academic level, so these resources would help many students outside of my class.
Most (2/3's) of the students at our school are from low-income households, 1/3 of them are English Learners.
My Project
My students need headphones to use on their computers on a nearly daily basis to supplement reading and math instruction. Many of their families either can't afford headphones or can't afford replacements when they break. I have a combination class (2/3), so it is really helpful when I'm teaching one grade the other can do educational programs (quietly!) on their computers.
The magnifying glasses would be used mainly for science.
We always have things to observe more closely in the classroom--everything from rocks and plants that we're growing to butterflies that we've raised from eggs. Thank you for considering helping us!
