Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The robotics team is comprised of 30 smart, creative, enthusiastic and dedicated students. They have a strong desire to succeed and love competing. We are a second season rookie team and have just the basics to work with, thanks to a fully funded project! Given the right tools and materials I am confident that these students can create a competitive robot.
Our school is in Paterson, NJ and serves families at a low socioeconomic level.
The district is working with a small budget that gets smaller every year. There is no money available to purchase materials or to pay entrance fees for competitions. My students are coming up with many imaginative ways to raise money for our needs. Among the many suggestions from students was the idea of reaching out to generous people through Donors Choose!
The students' enthusiasm is really contagious, but enthusiasm alone is not enough. We need tools and materials. These students want to prove that being poor does not equal being unsuccessful. Through your generosity my students will be able to show that they have what it takes to succeed.
My Project
Thanks to generous donors our first project for basic tools was fully funded! This proposal, for additional pliers, wrenches and better safety glasses and gloves, will make building our robot a reality. Together, these projects will give my students a well supplied workshop where any tool they might need will be there for them to use. A stocked workshop of our own was just a dream until now!
Our second season as an FRC team is going to be even better than our first.
My student's pride and self-confidence will soar when they are working in their own space using their own tools.
