Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students make up a very talented group of high school robotics STEM students. They all plan to pursue careers in STEM - related fields, and robotics helps give them a head start. They are very special because they have been together since middle school, and their work ethic makes them excel at whatever they put their minds to.
They are always striving to learn new things that not only apply to robotics and academics, but also in their future lives.
For example, Alejandro, a member on our team, is always taking time to research out of school to gain a better understanding of what he is dealing with as well as spread his knowledge with the rest of the team. For instance, Alejandro went home after having trouble with designing the arm and researched the issue in depth. He then returned the next day and knew more than even I knew about arm design!
In addition to that, Ian, always wants to help the team more by learning new things and enhancing his knowledge and understanding of robotics; or instance, he spent a lot of time outside of school learning the different functions in the programming language.
My Project
Our task, which is to get a new laptop, is extremely important for members of the robotics team. As a programmer, you must create code on a laptop and upload it to the robot. The problem is that our current laptop doesn’t have enough space and is always slow, inhibiting the growth and production rates of our students on the team.
We have to wait longer times and can no longer install the updates necessary to fix certain bugs in the system to allow them to complete their work effectively.
Also we need to move up to Labview, the programming language that is commonly used in an industrial and robotics setting.
