Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school is a Title I school in Miami-Dade County.
My students are lower-middle class students who do not all have access to the materials they need to maximize their potential in school. While most of them do not struggle for food or clothes, many of them do not have access to reliable technology at home. This proposal is part of an initiative of mine to provide these students access to technology. This particular request is for tablets which would allow students to engage individually in class surveys, formative assessments, GooseChase Math Scavenger Hunts, review games, research, and more, rather than having to share devices each activity we do.
My Project
As Jenny Arledge once said, "Technology can become the wings that will allow the educational world to fly farther and faster than ever before- if we allow it."
In a time where technology is a norm for my students, the best way to keep my students engaged is to allow them to learn in a way that is authentic to their everyday lives, which often includes technology in hand!
My students truly perform better when they are engaged in interactive tasks during class. They gain a lot educationally and socially from being able to get up and move around, communicate and collaborate ideas, problem solve and work together to understand the class topics.
Since I work with 6th graders (age 11-12), they often have less access than other students in the building to begin with! This will help close the gap between students who do come to school with smartphones, tablets, and laptops of their own, and students who do not own a phone due to their age or financial access.
