My students come from diverse backgrounds and that provides us with wonderful learning opportunities. Some of my students have special needs, and others are gifted learners. We have some students in our school who are homeless and have difficulty making it to school each day, while others experience homelessness as observers who feel the need to help others. We also have children from military families, as well as some who speak English as a Second Language or English Language Learners (ESL/ELL). We are very fortunate to have such a beautifully diverse classroom community.
Although our school is faced with an increasing number of students from low-income families, my students are highly motivated to solve problems and make the world a better place.
My students are the scientists, artists, engineers, and mathematicians of the future. They care about others and want to make a difference in the world. I can't wait to see the amazing things they accomplish in their lives!
My Project
My students live near a river, and that river is home to many plants and animals that need our protection. Thanks to the DonorsChoose.org community, we will be receiving a river tank habitat. It includes the tank and accessories to set up a hands-on study of a river ecosystem. With your help, we will complete the habitat by adding plants and animals to the tank.
This experience will help my students understand the interdependence between plants, animals, and the environment.
The animals in our river have specific needs, and understanding those needs will enable my students to see the impact of our actions in a way that is meaningful. They will gain a true understanding of food chains and food webs, and that will help them understand factors that could lead to a reduced population or extinction in some species...and how that would impact the other organisms in our ecosystem. These are science standards that are required in our state. More importantly, they are concepts that impact our entire planet.
Please consider helping my students learn the importance of ecological responsibility and compassion for wildlife. The lessons my students learn today will influence their thoughts and actions throughout their lives.
