Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyday my classroom is filled with 42 excited 9 and 10 year olds, from different backgrounds. Most are from either Mexico or Central America and this is their 2nd year in our country.
My students belong to low-income families, some living with grandparents and single family homes.
They face a lot of challenges, not only in reading but in transitioning to the English language. My scholars are in need of a variety of high interest reading materials and comfortable seating for thier Reader's Workshop.
My Project
The Time for Kids Magazine subscription and Scholastic Magazine subscription will be used to prepare my students for the state exam. They will also increase their knowledge of non fiction articles, text features and text structures. The bean bags and sofas will be used for a reading nook during their 45 minutes of independent and partner reading time. This will help increase students reading stamina.
Your donation will create a Reading Paradise for the children, with multiple seating options around the classroom.
The children will be more comfortable and excited during their Reader's Workshop.
The lapdesks will be used with the chromebooks for reading electronic books or watching books read aloud videos.
