Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are all young men who participate in sports year-round as members of the school baseball team. From running to throwing and batting, these students are constantly giving their all to their school and the sport of baseball. They enjoy laughing, telling jokes and spending hours practicing baseball together.
They are good students who work hard in the classroom.
They understand that academics are the most important part of school, so they strive to improve their grades constantly and perform well in their classes as well as on the baseball field. Parents tend to be lower-middle class, so fundraising is always a challenge.
My Project
Our team works hard to keep their playing field in good shape. The tarps and mats will protect the field and allow us to keep the clay dry when it rains, which is often here in the sub-tropics.
The pandemic has made it difficult to fundraise as the school system is not approving in-person fundraisers such as car washes and candy sales.
Our school doesn't even supply baseballs so we need the generosity of donors to be able to have enough for our season. We have three teams of young men (varsity, junior varsity and freshmen) who will benefit from these items.
