My Students

I teach a group of 4th and 5th grade artistic students.
These students excel in traditional academic areas of Language Arts and Math, but unfortunately have limited exposure to art. Art classes are offered to selected classes throughout the school year. As a result Art lessons are often incorporated in other subject areas. I admire my students for their enthusiasm and participation when they are given art assignments.
My Project
Fridays in my class are assessment days. My students look forward to completing their assessments because they know that afterwards they will be given an Art assignment. Shortly after school starts, most of my students have lost or destroyed their art supplies, especially crayons.
Funding this project will help supplement the limited art supplies that are provided by the school and by parents and will enable students to express themselves artistically, without worrying about whether or not they have to share or ration their supplies.
School districts have diminished funding for the ARTS over the years. However studies have shown that students excel when they are allowed to express themselves artistically.
