Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in Phoenix, Arizona. My students are English language learners from low income families but that does not slow them down. They continue to be enthusiastic about learning and growing their knowledge. They are creative and investigative, they not only ask questions but are eager to research the answer to their own questions. They work hard to be inclusive with one another and support those who join us from different countries.
My students are hard working, self-directed learners, who want to explore the world and expand there ideas.
My students want to learn about themselves, our community, and communities that are different from our own.
My Project
Digital literacy is an important part of being a student in the 21st-century. Many of my students do not have access to computers or technological tools at home because of their low income status, therefore, their digital literacies skills are lacking.
Having an iPad in our classroom would benefit the students by giving them the opportunity to build their digital literacy and access online resources to support instruction.
Many of my students have a hard time logging onto our school laptops because they lack fine motor skills and have difficulty navigating with the laptop touchpad. The iPad would give access to my students who typically are not able to use the computer because of the iPad's easy to use touch screen.
To support their reading instruction students will be able to record themselves reading while using the headphones and then listen to it so that they can hear themselves read and get direct feedback on how to become better readers. To support them in writing students will be able to use the iPad to type their writing pieces so that we can publish them in the classroom, well at the same time practicing such an important skill for the 21st-century. The iPad would also support the students math instruction by giving them the opportunity to practice independently using online resources.
