My students need a class set of the novel, The Glass Castle. Not only will it help my current students but I plan to use this book for many years to come!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each day I come to teach a great group of Cleveland kids from all over the city. In this public high school, these students choose to come to our downtown campus to focus on STEM inspired curriculums. In English class, these students are challenged with inspiring and interesting texts to help prepare them for their post high school goals.
My students all are creative, excited individuals who deserve great texts and lessons.
I want to inspire them and hope that this Donor's Choose project will help me be a better teacher for them.
My Project
Each quarter I try and inspire my students with a variety of literature. This novel really helped me reach students in the past. I hope that through Donor's Choose I can reach even more.
Students connect to the struggles of the narrator and they make connections with the struggles in their own live, but also look to the success Jeannette Walls has had and focus on ways they will be able to reach their dreams.
In our unit we will be reading the novel, The Glass Castle, and students will be connecting to their own lives. Writing will be supporting the various literature elements from the novel. Students will connect some social and emotional elements to their own lives in their own writing.
