Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our class is so appreciative of the generous Nook donations that are used during our literacy block. My students would like to have a variety of genres to choose from and at this time as a classroom teacher I'm unable to fulfill their needs.

I teach a 2nd grade class in a high poverty community.

Having a classroom of English language learners creates the need for a lot of differentiation throughout the day. My students learn at so many different levels. Some students are very visual and hands-on in both literacy and math. My students need practice and repetition to help with confidence, stamina, and accuracy with all subjects.

My Project

The books we are requesting will be added to our classroom library. Some ebooks will be used for the Nooks during our literacy block. The students will be able to have more choices with their selection of different genres. Words on paper and words on the Nook allow the students to have excitement while reading. The Nook books used during centers give the students as sense of independence while they practice individual skills. The scrabble games also give students a chance to practice word work while at the same time creates fun learning. Practicing in centers helps students build fluency and practice decoding.

By donating books to our classroom, you will help us continue our journey to read on level.

The students will have opportunities to read different genres and read with enjoyment. Please help make our reading skills soar!
