My class covers a variety of technology topics, including hardware, career and life skills, 3D modeling and internet. I often utilize free software to enhance their digital literacy skills.
We have an inquisitive group of 7th graders that are eager to learn about technology and its role in their future.
By the end of my quarter long class, students are able to make wise consumer decisions when it comes to technology. They have explored career options and constructed a resume and monthly budget. Perseverance through troubleshooting is learned as students acquire 3D modeling skills. My students also enhance their comprehension of internet topics including digital citizenship and understanding the internet.
The skills that my students master help them prepare for careers and life. We focus on problem solving and critical thinking as well as adapting to the ever changing world of technology.
My Project
Many of my students have an interest in designing and programming, but few opportunities to explore that interest. I've established an environment to meet that need, now it is time to break away from the keyboard and screen to bring creations to life.
Students will construct designs using Lego Mindstorms and iPads to program their creations to solve problems.
Teams of students will work together to create a plan then take their concept through the design process. It is my hope that they will begin to appreciate how failed experiments foster learning and progress with each iteration to their design.
Students will gain many skills applicable to any job including collaboration, time management, resource management and planning. They will also develop STEM specific career skills.
