My students need basic classroom supplies such as a Mid-Back Mesh Chair, ink, paper towels, and more due to limited resources in our low income community.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hi Everyone! Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my donors choose page! I am a brand new teacher in Brooklyn, NY. I have been recently hired to teach in a 8:1:1 class ratio in District 75 school. The school in which I work is one of NYC's highest needs schools located in a hard to staff geographic area. The students in my classroom are between the ages of 5-7 years old. They have all been diagnosed with Autism. All of my students live in the surrounding area with low income families, some live in shelters, or even with foster families. My students thrive in classrooms that implement multi-sensory approaches and differentiated instruction. I believe one day all children, regardless of ability, will be able to grow and thrive within the public education arena.
My Project
Students will have access to materials and resources that will create a hands on learning environment which is crucial for our student's with Autism. For example, my students will have their own copies of books that are part of our ELA curriculum. The laminator will allow the students to have access to adapted materials specific to their learning needs. Having a carpet will allow all of the students to sit together and actively participate in circle time. The butterfly growing kit will allow students to see the life cycle of a butterfly firsthand and not just in a textbook. The printer ink will ensure that the students are able to work on individualized worksheets every day.
