Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at the music and choir teacher at a Title I school where most students are low income. It has been open almost two years and I have been there since the beginning. The program focuses on DLI; students learn Spanish half of their school day and English the other half.
Although my school is only three years old, our music program is steadily growing and thriving.
My students love music class, are excited to learn, and most importantly are learning while having fun. I am a firm believer in hands-on learning and believe this is the best way for information to stick. When every student has an instrument this helps the information to stick.
My Project
The longer I am at my school, the more my love of musicals is rubbing off on my students. By the end of my second year, my choir was begging to perform a musical, but the funding has always been what holds me back from making our dream a reality. We talked about doing a musical frequently last year, but the price forced me to not commit.
With your help, my students can debut a musical at our school.
The four musicals, as well as the Musical Theater Singer Anthology Books, will be the perfect kickstart to the Paseo Pointe Musical Theater Department. The musicals will be a collaborative project whereas​ the anthologies will be used on individual student based to hone and develop their vocal skills.
