Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you heard of "No Child Left Behind?" That's exactly what I'd like to accomplish with the students. I'm trying to close their achievement gap as much as possible. These students have a lot of potential. They need the support to reach it.
The California school that the students attend is in a gang area.
It's gang area #2 in the Valley. The school population is all on the free reduced lunch program. The population is 98% Latino. The students either miss school or are late constantly. The students are hard workers. A lot of them don't have enough home support. Many of them have a lot of home issues that they bring to school.
My Project
The resources that I've requested are for literacy activities. These literacy activities will make learning more fun for the students. They will be playing and learning at the same time. These literacy activities will help close some of their achievement gaps. The literacy activities that I'd like for them are a variety of Bingo games, like the Alphabet & Sight Words. I also would like the students to continue having more fun with the Hot Dots Program. It's a program that helps K-5 students in a variety of literacy activities, like synonyms, vocabulary, & comprehension. For the 1st-5th graders, they need a lot more practice with test taking skills and strategies. That's why the Spectrum Test Prep books would help them with that. For the lower grades, it will be geared towards prevention. For the upper grades, it'll be for prevention. Many of the students just need extra support to help them cross that bridge. These activities will also them to do so.
You will be making a huge difference in the lives of these kinder-5th graders.
They will be so happy to know that somebody cares about them. They'll be glad to know that somebody cared enough to help them close their achievement gaps to reach their goals.
