Help me give my students a large learning space with enough room for everyone. Perfect for our Community Circles, Read Alouds, and collaborative Math Problem of the Day.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We’re a group of dedicated scholars learning in New Orleans. Our class is a group of collaborative learners who support and challenge each other to investigate the world around us. These super students are quirky, energetic personalities who love to dance, sing and play their way to strong understandings of rigorous work. The lightbulbs going off in this class are so bright, I usually teach with the lights off! As a teacher born and raised in the same communities as my students, I’ve thoroughly invested in them receiving the high quality education they desire and deserve.
My Project
We currently have one rug large enough for the class, but this will create another learning environment for students to engage with each other and their learning in more inventive ways than simply sitting at their desk. My students love to read and put together puzzles on the carpet, as well as watch instructional videos and dance for brain breaks. That’s in addition to the many ways I use it for direct instruction. This is a resource that we will use in a large variety of ways throughout the school year. This rug will most likely be located near our library so students can enjoy the natural sunlight from the windows while they delve into pages of adventure during our Guided Reading block.
