This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"I always try to teach by example and not force my ideas on a young musician. One of the reasons we're here is to be a part of this process of exchange."-Dizzy Gillespie.
We believe that music can open doors for our students!
Our School has a guitar club, which provides 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders the opportunity to explore an introductory guitar experience, culminating in a performance for parents, teachers and classmates.
Our students attend school in a high poverty county in South Carolina. Many of our students come from economically challenged situations. Guitar club provides many the opportunity to experience a musical instrument which they would not normally be able to afford.
My Project
An additional set of 8 guitars will allow the guitar club to offer 8 more seats in the classroom. These 3/4 size guitars will make it easier for the club to accommodate younger students who are physically unable to handle one of the full size guitars that have been gifted to our club.
The students and members of our community have a strong belief that music can make a positive change in the life of a student.
Our club offers free of charge guitar instruction for students who would not normally have the opportunity to learn an instrument.
