As a teacher in an alternative behavioral school, I witness first-hand every day the power of love and structure. Despite social or emotional challenges my students may face, they deserve the experience to play within the classroom, which is essential to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of all growing minds and bodies. Play is absolutely vital to a child’s healthy development.
My students are kind, curious and intelligent!
It is my duty to provide my students with the necessary tools and toys to help them reach their maximum potential. They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of independence and success.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to have active bodies yet attain to learning. My students will enjoy sharing toys while using brainstorming skills to solve STEM projects and toys. They almost always make good choices when they are given a variety of 'working for' choices such as Legos, blocks, etc. and get more work completed when they are motivated by tools and toys! Tools included such as wobble cushions, stools, STEM magnetics and Legos are just a few examples of how your generosity will help our little minds grow bigger!
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given choices of rewards and have the ability to be creative and move among the room.
