My Students

Do you love to be read to? Well...my first graders love to sit and listen to many stories. We lost our listening center last year and would desperately love to replace it.

I teach at a high poverty school in the Midwest.

Many students that enter my classroom have had no real exposure to books or reading at home. These students love it when I read books aloud to them. They develop a love of reading at a young age and leave my classroom with many favorites.

My Project

Listening centers provide first grade students the chance to build reading skills. By listening to a story on tape, students are able to build fluency and make connections with printed words. My students need more exposure to read alouds, but when I am working with small groups, the listening center helps provide them with that exposure.

The listening center has always been a favorite literacy workstation in my classroom.

I have several books on tape, but last year my "center favorite" bit the dust. It only speeds through tapes and has ruined many of my own. Please help my classroom bring back this important teaching tool!
