Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from South Central Los Angeles. They are intelligent, insightful and creative teens who love learning and work hard to get into college. They come into the library at lunch and after school to get the most of their education.
My students have amazing, innovative ideas that they want to develop into media-rich projects.
But when asked to create, many students lack resources to do so. I know they will thrive if given the opportunity! Students created the Library Club as a way to be involved, take care of the library books and make the library an enticing place to for students to visit.
My Project
Our school library has been abandoned for the last 3 years, so the decorations and signs are outdated. But now we have a teacher-librarian and our students have developed a Library Club!
My Library Club students are very creative and excited to use these materials to help promote events in the library, take care of the books and create engaging and educational decorations.
We are designing a MakerSpace for the library and these tools will be used not only for the Library Club, but for any club or student who wants to be creative. Our students love to express themselves creatively, so making signs, posters and buttons with these materials will engage them in so many long-lasting ways beyond the classroom!
