My students need new interactive educational supplies for their classroom. Our students are using old worn out educational games and books. We have found several games/tools to help them meet their goals this year.
I am a special education teacher. I teach students who have a range of physical and mental disabilities, but this does not define who they are as individuals or students.
The students in my classroom work on functional skills that include taking care of the classroom, washing and folding, shredding, as well as classroom work like reading and math.
The students in my classroom are super stars of their school. Students in the general population stop by our classroom to say hi to our students and sit with them to decompress. We have the most loving, bright, and cheerful students in the school. Some of the students in my class have major heart and breathing conditions, some have met their life expectancy, some are wheelchair bound, some are autistic or have down syndrome, some have trouble speaking and moving, but you would never know they are in pain. We have the bravest most inspirational students in the district. They are our heroes and they deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential and to have a successful life in their community after high school.
My Project
Our students are using old worn out games some with missing pieces or broken. They have gone through several magazines in the room and picked out a few things they would like to see in their centers. We have been playing with the same cards and puzzles/ pictures and books for the last few years.
Several of our students use switch devices to interact.
We would love to add a couple of switch learning tools to the classroom so they can participate with their peers and play games in centers. We have buttons, but no switch toys.
Our students are sensory sensitive and have functional skills needs. We have chosen several games that will help with community signs, shopping, feelings, communication, and basic math and letters.
Our classroom has an old CD/tape player that does not work. The students have several books on tape they cannot listen to because we do not have the equipment that will allow them to do so. They are so excited to be able to use these supplies and games.
These games and supplies will help aid our students in reaching their educational, emotional, and functional goals this year.
