My students need water filters, water boiler, manual laundry machine, and rug cleaner to dive deeper into a water study and help them appreciate a resource we need and often take for granted.
Our early childhood school is now in its tenth year serving the community. In our Pre-K class, that means over 180 students will have come and gone from this Pre-K classroom. Along with that, many other students have called our room home for enrichment classes, after-school programs, and summer camp.
Families send their precious children to our class every day, for us to help them take those first steps towards accomplishing great feats.
Children make this room their home for however long they stay and miss it dearly when they move on. It's something we take pride in, and we hope to continue doing what we love to do and that nurtures their love for learning.
I've been teaching at my first and current school for six years. No matter who enters through that door, they are part of our school family. I hope to provide them with the absolute best education we can offer.
My Project
Children are curious about everything they can explore using their senses. If you watch a newborn baby, they are learning and exploring using their five sense. The simple input we take for granted is the first teacher that an infant learns from as it begins to explore the world. We deny our children from learning about their curiosity and what intrigues them because someone believes that binding them to a desk in a classroom in order to pass a test is considered learning and is what best prepares them for the future.
Have you ever watched a child become fascinated with a puddle of water created by the rain?
Watching them step, jump, create, manipulate, and explore. The curiosity of how the world works inspired by a simple puddle. Children are naturally curious, creative, and love playing with water whenever they get the chance. There's a need for our kids to learn about water, where it comes from, why it's important, and to show an appreciation for it.
Whether it's for cleaning, drinking, or playing, water is a part of our students' daily lives in school and at home. I am hoping to request unique classroom materials to help our kids learn about water and dive into a deeper discussion and study about water so our children can learn to appreciate this resource we take for granted. The water filter and water boiler will show our kids how important clean water is for consumption. The manual laundry and rug cleaner will be a great example of how water is used to help keep our classroom clean. Our kids will have a deeper appreciation when they take part in washing our dramatic play clothes with a manual washer. They say you only appreciate things when it's gone. Hopefully, water won't be.
