Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember how you once looked forward to a day at the zoo, a visit to the museum or even an aquarium? Our students rarely get the opportunity to leave their classroom or even their city.
Our school serves special education students of low socioeconomic status.
This limits their opportunities to leave the city and explore culturally and educationally enriching activities. Our students learn best when they are exposed to hands-on, authentic experiences.
My Project
At the aquarium, students will have the chance to participate in activities such as, observing the life cycles of sea turtles and even touching a real shark in the aquarium's touch tank. This will allow students to make real world connections between what they have learned in the classroom and their own experiences.
These activities will provide our students with practice in appropriate social interactions by demonstrating learned social skills in a real life setting.
Students will need to follow instructions, make requests appropriately, use an appropriate voice tone, and generally show respect, responsibility and safety at all times.
