I work with a very diverse group of students. They come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. However, when they come together its not about race, gender, or finances. It's all about our mutual love of learning. We sing, we read, we dance, we count, we respect, we care, we share, we appreciate, we sometimes fall, but we always get back up and try it again. Many of my students families are barely hanging on, struggling to remain in the surrounding neighborhoods, so their children can remain in our school. School is their worry-free safe place. For some students our school is the one constant they have in their lives.
Dramatic play centers invite imaginative and creative play. I am trying to create developmentally appropriate centers for my students to better engage them in learning kindergarten skills. The items I am requested will help reinforce many of the skills that I teach my students each day. Dramatic play engages children in both life and learning. Dramatic play increases their understanding of the world they live in, as it works to develop personal skills that will help them so be successful throughout their lives.
Some of the items my students need are healthy play food and kitchen supplies, a couch for their home center, dolls, community helpers literature and supplies, and a cash register.
These items will help my students with their social/emotional skills, communication/language skills, and physical skills.
