Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hard work and dedication are two words that not only describe our High School Lady Spartans Softball student-athletes, but they are the embodiment of both of those terms. More than 75% of our students hail from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and we greatly appreciate any help we can get.
It is a privilege to get to work with such dedicated, goal oriented student-athletes, and a testament to their drive is the results we have reaped over the past two seasons in spite of having to do more with less.
My Project
Two years ago fencing was installed for a new batting cage for our student-athletes, and just last year there was a cement slab that was poured as well. Now all that we need is this Jugs Batting Cage netting to finish off what was started. We have been successful in securing league championships for the past two years, and having a resource such as a batting cage for our players to utilize will be a valuable asset in forging toward our short-term goal of continued post-season success, and more importantly our long term goal of creating a college-bound culture.
Please help us finalize the construction of the Rio Mesa Spartan Softball program batting cage for our student-athletes to utilize in their process of working to improve their hitting.
Our ultimate goal of assisting players in securing their dream of playing collegiate softball will be greatly impacted by this project. Based on United States Census Bureau information for the El Rio community (where our High School is located), only 9.1% of persons age 25 years or older currently have a Bachelor's degree or higher. Creating this batting cage for our high achieving young ladies will give us an opportunity to improve their offensive skills. Concurrently improving our student-athletes' hitting while raising their academic performance will assist us in making them more marketable to collegiate softball coaches/scouts. This directly impacts our vision of college-bound Lady Spartan student-athletes in hopes of them earning their college degrees. Constructing this facility will not only help young ladies achieve their personal goals, but will also have a positive impact on our community and will be available for those coming into the Spartan Softball Program for years to come.
