Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our high school has some of the best students in the state of Indiana! I'm a little biased but I really believe in our students and love seeing them succeed in the face of a plethora of obstacles. Our students face many challenges from food scarcity, linguistic barriers, to funding issues. We serve a population that has a high poverty rate as well as one of the highest percentages of English Languages Learners in the entire state.
These challenges only serve to make the successes of our students even more impressive.
Even though we lack funding, we sent two students to the University of Notre Dame last year and we have a student working towards admission into the Air Force Academy this year. Funding through the helpful and wonderful people and companies associated with Donorschoose.org would mean the world to our students. It would allow us to purchase new equipment and better provide the essentials that are needed to keep our kids safe.
My Project
Our school is in desperate need for improved protective equipment for our football players. Our school lacks major donors or funding, and our school community has a great deal of financial need. Over 70% of our students qualify for free lunches so outside assistance is crucial in helping us improve the protective equipment we provide to our football team.
Our goal is to prepare our kids for success on and off the field and help develop them into strong leaders and role models for the community.
This donation will help our kids see how much people care about them. It will also help provide essential equipment to students who would otherwise be unable to purchase it.
The equipment we are looking to purchase are the Riddell girdle, Hyperstrong Football Top, and Douglass Butterfly Restrictor. The girdles will be used for players who can not afford to purchase their own. The padded football tops will be used to provide an extra layer of shoulder and collar bone protection as well as built in rib protection. Finally, the Butterfly Restrictor will be used to protect players' necks and add additional support that a helmet alone does not provide. These pieces of equipment will greatly benefit our players and provide them an extra level of safety while participating in games and practice.
