My students need math games, books and quiz cards.

"Arithmetic is numbers you squeeze from your head to your hand to your pencil to your paper till you get the answer."~Carl Sandburg...True, but I believe it should involve more than that! My students need games to show them there can be fun in learning about fractions, time, money...
My students attend a Magnet School that is in a low economic area.
Our students get free breakfast and 90% of them are on a free or reduced lunch. This could be the only "well rounded" meal they get. Some travel on buses as far as 30 miles away. But one thing I can say is that most of the children LOVE coming to school. They are excited and eager to learn and forget about their troubles. We have a Saturday camp twice a month. When I drive home, I can see some of them walking down the sidewalk on main roads to get back to their houses. The students at this school are dedicated to getting the best education they can!
I provide my students with the normal, everyday materials they need such as, pencils, crayons, notebooks, paper...But it becomes very costly to provide them with games, computer software and books that will keep their interest and motivate them to want to learn! We have 4 computers in our classroom that the students love to use. Unfortunately our Internet connection is not always working. With games to download, our computer center will always be up and running. The Math games will not only provide support to concepts I have taught them, but also give them opportunities to build on teamwork and communication with each other. These are all very important characteristics in molding a well-rounded child. In the past, I taught all subjects and really enjoyed reading books to introduce my students to a new topic. At this time I only teach Math and Science, but with a set of Math books I can incorporate my love of reading into my Math lessons.
These items well help complete my classroom!
With games, books and computer programs my children will be given opportunities that are not provided when they go home! It takes a village to raise a child! Please be part of my village!
