Do you remember finding a good book to read by its cover? My students would love to read Chinese books if they know what the books are about by the images on the covers. These book displays I have chosen will make it much easier for my students to select their favorite books.
My first grade students attend a public elementary Title I school in Southern California.
They are enrolled in a dual-immersion program in which half of the day they are learning to read, write, listen and speak Mandarin. I teach 41 students in my dual immersion Mandarin classroom. The majority of my students are from non-native Mandarin speaking families. In my classroom, English speakers are immersed in the Mandarin language while learning their California standards based curriculum.
My Project
Reading is so important in today's world and part of learning a new language is reading. There is something about putting a good book in my students' hands and watching them as they open their minds to new and exciting things. I am confident that by adding these bookshelves to my classroom library, they will help keep the books organized, easy to find and most importantly encourage my students to read more.
Your donation will greatly improve the classrooms organization as well as encourage my students to pick up a book and read.
It will empower students by allowing them to learn independently using the resources provided. Knowledge learned now is building the foundation for my students' future growth in learning Mandarin as a 2nd language.
