Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a small, rural school with approximately 450 students in pre-k through eighth grade. They live in an area of high poverty. Approximately seventy-five percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Forty-eight percent of these students speak English as a second language. Every year we have students come to school without any English at all. Their families are supportive but have language deficits as well. As a school, we try to provide as many opportunities for our students to be successful in and out of the classroom. We have begun a soccer team but are unable to get funding for even the basics our boys need.
These boys are eager to learn the game of soccer and improve their skills, despite having many challenges to overcome.
Soccer gives them the opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves. They have the chance to be a part of a team, to set goals and work together to accomplish them. These are important life skills that will never be forgotten. Purchasing the equipment necessary to support the team will help our team and school community as well.
My Project
Our new soccer team is eager to learn and improve their soccer skills for the upcoming season. The passing gates will be used to develop accuracy and ball control. We will add the bright targets and balls into soccer practice warm-up drills to improve players’ agility, footwork, and dribbling techniques and watch in-game passing and foot skills improve.
The 3-in-1 Soccer Trainer will be used in a variety of training experiences.
We can practice goals, shot targets, and rebounds to develop players’ shooting accuracy and control in the box.
We are excited to watch our boys grow together as a team.
