I have the pleasure of working with 14 third graders this year. This group has adjusted very well to being back in school and loves being face-to-face with their teachers and friends. They are very active and are working on thinking critically and problem solving.
This year's group of students have some big life goals!
We have been talking a lot about how we are going to spend their third grade year getting them ready for not only fourth grade, but their life beyond school. They are realizing how important it is going to be for them to be able to read, write, solve problems, have strong math skills and be flexible.
My Project
My third graders are currently using laptops that won't connect to the internet, shut down sporadically and have incredibly slow running speeds. We are incredibly fortunate to still be learning in school! However, we are trying to integrate technology into our everyday lessons to ensure that students will be able to continue their learning trajectory should we have to go remote. We currently have one remote day per month and there were families struggling with the devices that we provided their children with.
These third graders are our future and our future is going to require them to be fluent with technology.
These students are doing some amazing things with technology that include taking phonics assessments by watching videos that I post and writing words, researching and creating a presentation about a natural disaster, publishing narrative stories that are pages long and checking out books from our school library.
